Our perception and definition of ‘old’, as we Ahem!—age—is a moving target. When I was twelve, for example, I thought my grandparents were really, really old. They were probably in their late 60’s early 70’s. Today, according to my moveable time table, that age range is not old at all! Hey the 60’s is a time to reinvent, make things happen, have fun, and enjoy life!

As an Age Well Expert and R.N., I have learned that many typical complaints people have about getting older are avoidable, reversible, and treatable.

We now offer Telehealth through our APP for seniors to speak to us directly while staying safe in their homes. This way we coordinate their care, assist in communicating new or concerning symptoms to their health practitioner, and help with new issues. As Geriatric Care managers, we are available to offer nursing assistance, advice, and support for seniors and their families during this time of isolation.

An Ayrshire nursing home has been rated ‘weak’ for its care and support and infection control practices during the COVID-19 pandemic. Glenfairn House, which is run by Sanctuary Care, was also rated ‘adequate’ for supporting people’s health and well-being, and staffing by the Care Inspectorate following an inspection completed on 12 March.
